The World Heart Day 2022 tagged: “Cardiovascular Health for everyone” was celebrated by Health Compass Initiative and her team of volunteers in the city of Uyo on 29th September, 2022. Our World Heart Day campaign included a road awareness walk/rally, bank visit and sensitization and free blood pressure screening in several churches.
HEALTH TALK AT FIRST BANK, AKA ROAD:
On the 23rd of September, 2022, the Health Compass Initiative team anchored a health session with the workers at a bank in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. During the Health awareness session, bank staff were educated about cardiovascular diseases and how their work predisposes them to these diseases through sedentary lifestyle. They were exposed to the concept of lifestyle modification and the need for physical activity to promote their health and prevent cardiovascular diseases.
RALLY ON THE STREETS OF UYO
After visiting the bank, the Health Compass Initiative team began its street rally/public sensitization campaign with volunteers in attendance. During the street rally, the public was enlightened on how to keep the heart healthy by adopting healthy lifestyles including— reducing salt intake, engaging in physical activity regularly, eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, avoiding smoking and reducing alcohol intake. This street rally conducted along arguably one of the busiest routes in Uyo served to create massive awareness on heart healthy lifestyles and cardiovascular health in general.
